I am delighted and honored to join the TESOL Affiliate
Leadership Council (ALC). A proud member
of TESOL International for fourteen years and TexTESOL V for eight, I served on
the TexTESOL V board in a variety of positions including Secondary School
Representative, Secretary, President-Elect, President and Past-President. I also served as a member of the Council of
Presidents (COP) for the four Texas TESOL affiliates (the COP jokes that Texas
is such a big state, we need to have four affiliates!). In 2014, the COP hosted the first-ever
collaborative state conference for the four Texas affiliates, and I am grateful
to have served as one of the co-chairs and to have worked with my esteemed colleagues
from all of the Texas TESOL affiliates.
Additionally, I participate in a thriving global partnership between
TexTESOL V and Yakut TESOL. I visited
and taught English in Yakutsk at a Yakut TESOL English language camp, and I
continue to work with my TexTESOL V and Yakutian colleagues to broaden teaching
and learning opportunities between the two affiliates. I have taught all levels of ESOL and in a
variety of settings including community colleges, middle and high schools,
universities, in the workplace, and in corporate settings. My years of teaching ESOL and working with
ESOL students and colleagues have taught and inspired me to connect local and
world-wide perspectives. I look forward
to bringing my skills, enthusiasm, and proficiencies to the ALC, and I welcome
the opportunity to serve with the excellent ALC board and leadership team and
engage with and learn from dynamic board members from TESOL affiliates
worldwide.
