ANPC INITIATIVES
THE NEW AFFILIATE PEER ADVISORY PROGRAM
Ulrich (Uli) Schrader, Chair, ANPC 2018-2019

The Affiliate Network Professional Council (ANPC) has just launched the Affiliate Peer Advisory Program (APAP) as announced during the TESOL Leaders Town Hall on January 17th. This innovative program is designed to better connect affiliates and the TESOL ANPC in a more personal, direct way. The 8 members of the ANPC are reaching out to each TESOL affiliate to ask how the affiliate can contribute to the association governance-related issues (a best practices library of this material will be developed in the coming months) and how the ANPC/TESOL may support an affiliate. The program is aligned with TESOL’s Strategic Plan outcomes of “Global Presence and Connectivity”, “Knowledge and Expertise” and “Voice and Advocacy”.

If you are the President or official representative of your affiliate (as listed in the most recent Affiliate Leadership Update Form your affiliate submitted) you should have received an introductory message to this program. If no one in your affiliate leadership has received this message, please contact affiliates@tesol.org.

The ANPC is seeking specific best practices regarding affiliate/association governance: volunteerism, conference planning, social media outreach, membership fees and policies, etc. The purpose is to make this resource available to other affiliates who may need support in this area regarding affiliate governance. In turn, affiliates that need specific ideas can consult this resource and adopt and adapt as local circumstances permit.

ANPC members will collaborate with and support affiliates in the following areas of mutual benefit:

  •  Information-sharing where affiliates share their experiences and expertise with other affiliates.
  • Organizational Health of the association in regards to membership, events, and other pertinent organizational matters
  •  Expertise Buildup among the affiliate and its fellow affiliates in the same geographical area and beyond
  • Online and Offline Presence in various social outlets like LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and others, as well as newsletters or any other publishing media
  • National and International Event Planning and Organization including collaboration with other associations in their geographical area
  • Development of a Possible Strategic Plan for the affiliate as needed
  • Specific Challenges for their association; these may be increasing membership, having an online presence or other goals mutually agreed upon
  • Maintenance of Affiliation Requirements (see link)

We ask that you respond to the introductory message and let the ANPC know how you can support the program, or how the program can support you.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact affiliates@tesol.org
