Dear ALIS Community,
We trust your recent efforts in the realm of English Language Teaching have been rewarding and fulfilling. We are thrilled to bring you some exciting updates about our upcoming ALIS activities!
In May, we had the pleasure of introducing a dynamic new leadership team for ALIS during a vibrant gathering. We warmly welcomed Dr. Muhammad Alasmari as the chair-elect. Dr. Alasmari is currently the Dean of Development and Quality at the University of Bisha in Saudi Arabia. He completed his Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics at the University of Memphis, and his main interests include the role of language learning and teaching in social engineering. We also welcomed Shima Farhesh as the community manager, Miriam Moore as our social media coordinator, Mimi Li in the role of member-at-large, and our fresh faces in newsletter editing, Andy Liu Jiahao and Raj Khatri. Our heartfelt appreciation extends to Natalia Dolgova and Heather Weger, our outgoing newsletter editors, who have generously agreed to mentor our new editors to ensure the continued excellence of our newsletter.
This year, we're preparing to present a series of webinars aimed at exploring the future of English Language Teaching in the age of artificial intelligence. We encourage you to keep an eye out for more information about these exciting upcoming events.
Our TESOL 2024 Academic Session plans to address an important and timely subject: "Advancing Bilingual Education: The Transformative Role of Artificial Intelligence." This session will delve into the significant implications of AI for bilingual education, with insights from our panel of respected educators, technology experts, and researchers. We aim to illuminate how AI can bolster the learning journey of emergent bilingual students, discuss pioneering AI tools that personalize learning experiences, and highlight how AI promotes translanguaging to enhance students' comprehension and communication.
The TESOL International Association has officially launched the new myTESOL community, and we invite you to join our ALIS community. You can start posting, participating in discussions, and utilizing the impressive new features that the platform provides. Join us by using this link: https://my.tesol.org/topics/23248/home. We welcome your thoughts and questions. If you're keen to contribute or have suggestions for events and webinars, we encourage you to reach out to us. We look forward to working with you.
Best regards,
Rashad and Muhammad
