Hello ICIS Community!
I'm your new community manager for 2016–2017. I'm excited about
this position because it combines my two interest areas: professional
learning networks and intercultural communication. In summer 2014, I
received my PhD from the University of Iowa, and my dissertation
investigated the cultural adjustment process of sojourning English
language teachers. One of my research methods was to analyze blogs and
YouTube video of teachers in Japan and Korea, where I discovered an
informal network of English language teachers.
I am currently the curriculum coordinator of CESL at Southern Illinois
University, where I help connect research to practice and vice-versa.
One of my goals is to add culture and/or intercultural competence as a
thread throughout the curriculum.
I have started an ICIS Facebook
group and posted it on the ICIS Facebook
page for everyone to join. I hate to exclude people who don't
like Facebook, don't have reliable/legitimate access to Facebook, or
simply don’t use Facebook, so I will find a way to include all members
in discussions regardless of Facebook. The listserv is still the hub of
the ICIS. We also have a WordPress Blog,
where you can see results of the recent survey we carried out over the
listserv.
It's a pleasure serving as your community manager,
Jeremy D. Slagoski, PhD
