MEET THE ICIS LEADERSHIP FOR 2022-2023 |

Andrea Lypka, Co-Chair (2022-2023), Co-Chair of the Intercultural Communication Interest Section of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) International and the Vice President of the Sunshine State TESOL. As a Co-Chair I collaborate with ICIS and TESOL members to carry out ICIS goals. I also encourage members to prepare and deliver presentations on issues pertaining to intercultural communication at conferences and other professional development sessions. As the E-Learning Program Manager for the Pinellas Education Foundation in Largo, Florida I overse digital equity and scholarship projects. I hold a doctorate from the University of South Florida. Barbara Lapornik, TESOL ICIS Co-Chair (2022-2023). As Co- Chair I actively promote and support our community as our leadership team concentrates on ICIS present and future steps and direction. I can be contacted at: barbara.lapornik@gmail.com. I am based in Trieste, Italy, and work for the bilingual high school LS F. Prešeren, also covering the role of the international project manager, who organizes and coordinates student and staff exchanges, competitions in civic education and English language certificates. I focus my research on the manifold aspects of intercultural student education in diverse contexts, presenting them at international conferences. |

Roxanna Senyshyn, Past Chair (2019-2020) and Immediate Past Co-Chair (2020-2021). I currently (2022-2023) serve as the TESOL 2023 Convention program coordinator of the Culture and Intercultural Communication Strand. I am an Associate Professor in Applied Linguistics and Communication Arts and Sciences at Abington College, Pennsylvania State University in Abington, PA, USA. My teaching encompasses TESOL/ESL education, applied linguistics, and intercultural communication courses. My research focuses on transformative intercultural learning in teacher education, intercultural competence development, English learner and newcomer family engagement, teacher professional development, and second language education. Amy Alice Chastain, Past Leadership (2012-2022). I am Associate Professor of Instruction at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA, USA and serve as Outreach Coordinator for ESL Programs, a member of the UI Charter Committee for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Board President & Interim Executive Director of the Council for International Visitors to Iowa Cities. I have lived in France, China and the UAE and my research interests include exploring ways to encourage and build intercultural understanding and communicative competence; the use of ethnography and narrative; language choice and identity. Leslie Bohon, ICIS Co-Chair Elect. As Co-Chair Elect, I am responsible for shadowing and supporting the ICIS Chairs in their leadership work. I also teach international students and conduct intercultural learning programs at the University of Richmond in Richmond, VA, USA as Director of English Language Learning. My research interests are international student development / experience and intercultural competence. |

Josephine Prado, ICIS Co-Chair Elect. As Co-Chair Elect, I am responsible for shadowing and assisting ICIS Chairs with their duties related to the Intercultural Communication Interest Section. I serve as Assistant Professor for English Learner Education in the School of Education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. My research interests include intercultural competence in teacher education, and ESOL teachers’ efforts in advocacy. |

Jennifer A. Lacroix, Ed.D., Past-Co-Chair, (2021-2022). I am a pedagogy-focused applied linguist with expertise in second language acquisition research and its applications to language teaching. I am also an accomplished TESOL trainer with deep knowledge of various teaching methodologies and evidence-based practices. Currently, I am a bilingual English Language Development Teacher at a secondary school in Chelsea, MA, and I teach a research methods course to graduate-level students at Boston University, where I have taught since 2009. I have presented widely at international conferences and frequently co-authored publications with my collaborators. Daniela Silva, ICIS Member-at-Large. As an ICIS Member-at-Large, I serve as a liaison between the ICIS and the general membership. I hold a Ph.D. in Culture, Literacy, and Language from the University of Texas at San Antonio in the USA. I also hold an M.A. in TESOL from the University of Mississippi. In addition, I have taught EFL in Brazil and Portuguese at various U.S. universities. As a multilingual and multicultural educator, my research interests include teaching of culture, cultural and linguistic self-efficacy beliefs, TESOL, teacher education, and multicultural education. |
