Hello ITA Professionals,
James and I are excited to share with you this edition of the ITAIS newsletter. In particular, the updates from the Steering Committee are useful and filled with information about progress over the past year and upcoming events and professional development opportunities.
In the past year, with the pandemic, drastic changes in daily life, and workplace changes including transitioning to online programming and supporting international students around the globe, the bi-weekly ITA working group and the ITA list serve have both enabled me to embrace change and talk through ideas with others. We are fortunate to be part of such a wonderful, active community!
Speaking of an active community, Belinda Braunstein, one of our Members-at-Large, has this announcement about the format for our ITAIS Dinner:
This year’s ITAIS in-person dinner at TESOL will be replaced by an online social gathering preceded by a low-cost ($15), intercultural online experience. Those choosing to join in will select from a short menu of experiences to participate in at their convenience during the week of the TESOL conference. When we gather towards the end of the conference, those who tried the experiences will have an opportunity to share what they learned or did. Exciting details to come at the end of February!
As an editor, this will be my final edition of the ITAIS newsletter as Katya Arshavskaya will be joining James as co-editor in March 2021. I value the experience in working with the ITAIS Steering Committee and have found my role as editor or co-editor to be incredibly rewarding and helpful for connecting to others in the ITA practitioner community. I’d like to encourage you to consider taking on a role with the ITA Steering Committee in the future or to submit an article, teaching tip, or review to future editions of the newsletter. Our vibrant community has been one of the most supportive professional organizations that I have ever encountered and hopefully I will see many of you at the ITA Working Group on the third Thursday of each month.
Enjoy this edition of our newsletter!
