Greetings SLWIS Members,

We look forward to another year of teaching and researching second language writing and helping our students achieve their learning goals. We also look forward to the 2020 TESOL International Convention, which will be held in Denver, Colorado, USA.

In this issue, SLWIS Chair Betsy Gilliland provides an overview of the activities that our interest section had in the past 6 months and outlines future activities and opportunities to be involved in our professional community. This issue also features three articles. The first is Katherine O’Meara’s preview of the 2019 Symposium on Second Language Writing, which will be held 13–16 November 2019, in Tempe, Arizona, USA. The Symposium is an excellent professional development opportunity for researchers and practitioners alike interested in second language writing. Next, Tony Silva, Yachao Sun, Kyle Lucas, Parva Panahi Lazajani, and Qiusi Zhang provide an extensive literature review of L2 writing. We are grateful to Tony Silva and his coauthors for doing so much work to keep us up to date on the latest trends and research in second language writing. Finally, we are pleased to feature Marta Halaczkiewicz in our regular Graduate Student Spotlights section. Marta is currently pursuing a doctorate in instructional technology and learning sciences at Utah State University.

As always, we are grateful to all of our authors for sharing their work with our SLW News readers. Their work keeps us connected as an interest section and gives us the chance to learn from each other outside of the annual TESOL Convention. If you are interested in submitting an article, being featured as a graduate student, or reviewing a new book, please feel free to reach out to us. Our Submissions Guidelines include more information for authors.

We wish you a successful academic year!

Sincerely,

Elena & Ilka (on behalf of the SLW News editorial team)
