Dear HEIS Community,
Welcome to our August issue of HEIS News, a
newsletter for our Higher Education Interest Section (HEIS) members,
other TESOL members, and all professionals who work in the field. I hope
you are all doing well, adapting and adjusting to life during the
pandemic.
This issue has three articles, each covering different areas.
Our first article features our new HEIS leaders, who have the chance to
provide you with some information on who they are and why they are a
part of the HEIS leadership. The second article comes from David Berry,
who shares some of his experience with us and some recommendations for
teaching during the pandemic. The last article is a book review by Anna
Burnely about the book Show, Tell, Build: Twenty Key
Instructional Tools and Techniques for Educating English Learners.
When you have time, I hope you all will take some time to post
questions, news, or comments about current happenings in the TESOL world
to our HEIS
community board in MyTESOL. We enjoy seeing your postings,
especially when it starts an important discussion that gets others
talking, thinking, and moving.
Kelly Tracy, our new professional development coordinator, is
trying to work on developing a webinar that HEIS would like to offer.
Two webinar ideas that Kelly has include: 1) professional development on
a budget and 2) student engagement in online language teaching. If you
are interested in working with Kelly on organizing a webinar on either
of these topics, please contact Kelly Tracy.
We hope to improve member engagement through HEIS
News, our HEIS community board in MyTESOL, and HEIS webinars.
We welcome your involvement in any of these areas.
Best regards,
Maria Ammar
