Dear SRISers,
I am thrilled to introduce myself as this year’s community
manager. I’m based in Riyadh and teach English for academic purposes to
pre–health sciences students. I'm also currently conducting a
contrastive corpus analysis of Arabic and English native language
speakers’ academic written discourse as part of a PhD in applied
linguistics. I have always been passionate about social responsibility
and have taken part in many activist campaigns in my home country, Saudi
Arabia. One of the most crucial tools for activists in the Middle East
is social media, without which much of our activism would not have seen
the light of day. Thus, I see the value in these tools and how they
could also be used to achieve and enhance our goals as SRISers. Please
do take the time to follow our Twitter account and join our Facebook
page. On these platforms, we will disseminate links to publications,
research, and ready-to-use classroom materials not only to fellow
TESOLers but also to a global audience. If you have anything to share,
there are several ways to do so:
- Send it to the SRIS community Listserv email directly at SRIS@community.tesol.org
or to the moderator at SRIS-moderator@community.tesol.org.
- Tweet it with a mention to @SRIStesol, in which case it will be retweeted.
- Share it on the community’s Facebook page: Social
Responsibility Interest Group TESOL.
Thank you,
Eman Al Nafjan |
