Dear ALISers,
Serving as Coeditor for AL Forum has been a
fun ride. Over the last four years, I have had the privilege to work
with some wonderful people. And, along the way, I have learned much
about our Interest Section.
To my fellow Coeditors (present and past), thank you! Natalia
Dolgova, Monika Ekiert, Jana Moore, and Olga Griswold all helped make
the job enjoyable by being so easy to collaborate with, so generous with
their time, and so organized. That last attribute, along with a healthy
sense of humor, often saved the day as looming deadlines did more than
loom—they tended to zoom forward with lightning speed.
I would also like to give a shout out to all the ALIS Chairs I
have worked with. Eli Hinkel, Hayriye Kayi-Aydar, Nihat Polat, David
Olsher, Olga Griswold (again), and Kathy Howard (soon-to-be Chair, as of
the upcoming Convention), thanks for your service and commitment to our
Interest Section. And a special thanks to Eli, who has served as our
Community Manager over the last few years. Where would ALIS be without
her institutional knowledge and sharp wit?
My favorite part of the job was the front-row view into the
ongoing work of scholars in our field. It was rewarding to solicit
newsletter contributions spotlighting interesting research and inventive
teaching. Thank you to the 55 authors who have published in AL
Forum during my time as Coeditor.
And now, onto the next role. I will be stepping into the
position of ALIS Chair-Elect next month in Chicago. I look forward to
continuing my efforts to promote the position of Applied Linguistics in
TESOL. See you around…
All the best,
Ben |
