Dear Colleagues,
Being part of the International Teaching Assistants Interest
Section (ITAIS) has been instrumental in my development as an ITA
professional. Thus, it is an honor for me to contribute to the ITAIS by
serving as chair-elect for the 2019–2020 period. I have thoroughly
enjoyed working with our current chair, Morag Burke, this past year. I
would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for her
leadership and hard work. Thank you, Mo!
Even though the TESOL
Convention was cancelled, I’d like to thank everyone for their
hard work. TESOL 2020 had over a dozen ITA-related sessions! This
accomplishment would not have been possible without all of you. Thank
you for submitting your proposals and for keeping our interest section
strong. Our participation at the Convention each year will ensure our
success as an interest section in the years to come. I was in charge of
the Academic Session this year and would like to be able to offer it,
perhaps as a series of webinars. Stay tuned for more details.
Finally, I would like to thank everyone for their support of
the Virtual Poster Project. The inaugural poster I created was well
received by our members, some of whom have already shared their own
posters. You are amazing colleagues! I sent a link to the virtual
poster on the ITA listserv on Tuesday, 18 February. The virtual poster
is another means of sharing our work and allows ITAIS members to access
the session at a time that is convenient for them. I hope you are
inspired to share your presentations in a similar way in the future to
provide more opportunities for professional development for all members
throughout the year. I believe this project will become instrumental as
we move to online instruction. Feel free to share resources and
tutorials that can help us in this transition.
All the best,
Maria B. Mendoza, PhD |
