CHAIR ELECT LETTER

Cynthia DeRoma, Yale University, New Haven, CT, USA

Dear colleagues,

As I start to make plans to go to Pittsburgh, I can’t emphasize enough how much I’m looking forward to seeing at least some of you in person in March. On the other hand, this pandemic has shown us how flexible and resilient our community can be in any format, so I know we’ll continue being as strong as ever both in person and online. Just as an example, today I joined a lively Q&A session for our latest webinar with Elvis Wagner and Tosin Adebayo. It’s always so refreshing to learn from such great speakers and especially from members of our dear ITA-IS family. Kayla Landers, our community events coordinator, once again did a phenomenal job not just putting the event together, but also compiling and sharing notes from the discussion and Zoom chat. The community events organizer, as you know, is a fairly recent position in the ITA-IS steering committee, and it was such a welcome addition during the tough times we faced in 2020 and 2021. I’d like to thank Kayla, and Katya Arshavskaya before her, for their contribution in keeping us together. These will be tough shoes to fill.

And speaking of shoes to fill, our ITA-IS elections are happening from 11/29-12/10, and we will soon have a new steering committee. I hope everyone who’s eligible has been able to vote. I know it’s still early, but remember that if you’d like to be more active in our IS, please consider learning more about the different positions and maybe volunteering for one later next year.

I wish everyone a happy and sane end of the year!

All my best,

Cynthia DeRoma
