LETTER FROM THE CHAIR-ELECT

Kayla Landers, Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA

Hello fellow ITA professionals!

I am honored that you have elected me as the chair-elect for the International Teaching Assistants Interest Section for 2022-2023. I began my involvement with the interest section in 2018 in Chicago. Under great leaders, we continue to be collaborative, innovative, and inspiring. A huge shout out to Maria for inspiring me to get more involved and to Stacy and Cynthia for their guidance. I look forward to working with the leadership and all of you over the next year.

It was a delight to connect with many of you in Pittsburgh at TESOL. For those of you who could not join in-person, I am so thankful that our interest section continues to offer so many ways to stay connected: webinars, ITA work sessions, newsletters, and the ITA listserv. In these ways, we stay connected all year and don’t have to wait for TESOL. However, TESOL is still my favorite way to connect and learn. I am currently in the process of submitting proposals, and I hope you are as well. We had so many great sessions this past year; let’s aim for even more next year! Additionally, I am working on the ITA Academic Session. I sent out a brief survey to help with my planning, so if you haven’t done that, please do!

Until we meet again, keep the conversations going. Keep sharing the great ideas! Please reach out if you have any suggestions or questions!

Kayla Landers

Kayla Landers, chair-elect, ITA-IS. I have been a Language Specialist, ITA liaison, and Instructor at Lehigh University since June 2015. I received my master's in TESOL in 2009 and have been teaching undergraduate, graduate, and noncredit intensive English classes since then. I am interested in language assessment, technology in the classroom, and multimodal composition. I enjoyed planning webinars for the interest section last year, and I hope to find more ways to interact and connect throughout the year as well as share and promote more research and best practices within the field this year as chair-elect.
