LEADERSHIP UPDATE

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

Dear Esteemed Colleagues,

Hello from sunny Can Tho, Vietnam! As some of you may already know, I have recently left my position as an instructional specialist at Cornell University, where I was involved in the ITA program. Life has taken me to this Mekong Delta city, where I will be living for the next year or so. I was happy to be able to continue to serve in my role as ITAIS newsletter editor during this transition and international move.

This issue is short and sweet. It offers a promising vocabulary-building technique for ITAs from our colleague Fernanda Capraro and an overview of a fruitful ITA subgroup meeting in the United States from another colleague, Elizabeth Gilstrom. As always, it’s beneficial to hear about what has worked for us in our classrooms and what kind of exchanges and conversations are taking place among colleagues, so thank you to this issue’s authors for their contributions.

Before signing off, I would like to say Happy New Year to all of you. May 2014, the year of the horse, continue to bring conversations, collaborations, and more within our interest section and beyond. Our next issue will be in just this spirit. We have been collaborating with the Applied Linguists Interest Section on a co-publication. I am very excited about the substantial articles that colleagues have contributed, and I think it’s all coming together quite nicely. We intend to have this issue out before the TESOL convention in March, so stay tuned!

All the best!

Pauline Carpenter
