ITAIS COMMUNITY EVENTS UPDATE

Ekaterina (Katya) Arshavskaya, Utah State University, Logan, Utah, USA

Despite the many challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, educators in TESOL and in other professional teaching organizations have been able to gather thoughts, inspirations, and resources to share with each other in order to facilitate teaching and learning during these challenging times.

This year, the ITAIS community events included several online workshops and live discussion sessions on the use of digital technologies in ITAs’ education. The topics varied from the communication tools to support student interaction online to ways to use technology to create ITAs’ teaching portfolios and to promote helpful and collaborative relationships through online conversation games.

Our latest community event in February differed from the other sessions in terms of its focus on ways to “translate” our teaching expertise to other related fields, i.e., instructional technology. Our guest presenters in February were Sharon Tjaden-Glasshe (the eLearning Division of Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio) and Erica Fleming (Penn State).

We are very grateful to all our presenters and participants for sharing their resources and adding to the lively discussions. All the workshops (except the one in February) can be found in the ITAIS YouTube Channel.

Best wishes,

Katya Arshavskaya
