Dear PAIS members,

We hope you were able to find some much-needed downtime over the summer months and that your fall semesters are off to a great start! As current PAIS co-chairs, we are pleased to introduce our new newsletter editors, Christian Gomez (Duke University) and Laura Shier (Lewis & Clark College), who have put together a timely fall edition focused on programmatic responses to challenges brought on by the pandemic. We hope that the three articles they have included provide you valuable insights and possible ideas for implementation in your own contexts.

This past summer, our interest section began offering monthly informal chats on topics of interest and immediate relevance to PAIS members. Topics so far have included Duolingo, Strategic Planning, Coming Out of the Virtual World, and Strategic Schmoozing, Part 1: Building Academic Partnerships. Many thanks to everyone who has participated in these interactive, engaging sessions. Upcoming chats include Strategic Schmoozing, Part 2: Building Administrative Partnerships, which is planned for Friday, November 12 from 12-1 p.m. We look forward to seeing you in October and November. Also, we are currently looking for facilitators to lead or co-lead sessions in early spring, so please reach out to us if you are interested.

In addition to the newsletter and informal chats, during the 2022 TESOL International Convention PAIS will host an academic session called Effective Program Adaptations Post-Pandemic, which will focus on how innovative practices identified during the pandemic were adapted and implemented in the 2021-22 academic year. We are also working across interest sections to present two additional sessions at TESOL. The first of these sessions, in collaboration with HEIS, is titled Keeping the Balance Between the Needs of Students and Faculty. The second session, with the PK-12 IS, is called Assessment Concerns of PK-12: Guidance for Educators and Administrators. We would love to see you there.

Along with participating in our informal chats or seeing us at TESOL, please feel free to post on the PAIS MyTESOL page, and share your ideas with colleagues across the globe. PAIS welcomes participation from all levels of education and would love to hear about your administrative successes and challenges. If you have any questions or wish to become a more active part of PAIS, please feel free to reach out to either of us. Finally, enjoy the newsletter, and we look forward to seeing you online or in-person soon.
