Welcome to our preconvention issue of SLW
News. In this issue, in addition to highlighting upcoming
events at TESOL
2015, we share an article that focuses on tutor training, one
on a partnership between a teacher development and an EAP class, one on
current and future research on feedback in writing, and one on the 2014
Symposium on Second Language Writing. Also in this issue is a book review of
a beginning-level writing text.
With this issue, we want to announce a few changes to the
editorial staff.
Ilka Kostka will be moving into the
position of managing editor for SLW News. She is
currently an assistant teaching professor in the Global Pathways and American Classroom
programs at Northeastern University and has worked with the IS as a
member of both the newsletter editorial staff and the interest section
steering committee. Her research interests include textual borrowing and
the pedagogical potential of plagiarism detection software. She is a
member of TESOL’s Book Publications Standing Committee and is the
coauthor of the 2013 book Teaching
Writing, as well as the 2014 book Teaching
English for Academic Purposes,
both published by TESOL Press. We thank her for her offer to continue to
serve the IS as its newsletter editor.
We also welcome two new reviewers to our editorial staff.
Adam Clark received his MA from Azusa Pacific University
and is currently an instructor at Arizona State University’s American
English and Culture Program. Before going to ASU, he worked as an
instructor and computer-assisted language learning coordinator for the
English Language Program at Saginaw Valley State University, as an
EFL instructor for several years at a variety of schools in
Japan, and as a reviewer for the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation.
Ming Fang recently finished her PhD in
foreign and second language education at The Ohio State University. She is currently teaching first-year writing and serves as the WAC consultant
in the English Department at Florida International University. Her
research interests include contrastive/intercultural rhetoric, writing
across curriculum, NNEST professional development, teacher education,
and qualitative research.
Finally, we hope you enjoy this issue and will consider sharing
information about current pedagogy, research, and professional
activities by submitting an article for our next issue.
Best,
Margi Wald (on behalf of the Editorial Staff)
