In this TESOL Journal article, the author discusses intercultural rhetoric in relation to the treatment of poetry as written discourse for English for academic purposes students. Students engaged in a critical thinking activity in which they were asked to interpret a specific poet's rhetoric, giving them the opportunity to explore beyond literal comprehension and acquire a deeper understanding of a literary work.
