LETTER FROM THE CO-EDITORS Suzanne Bardasz
Hello CALL-ISers! What a long unusual year the last year has been! As we're still benefiting from the flood of articles from the last year, this newsletter includes articles from a wide variety of people on a wider variety of topics. Sezgi Acar, a recent MA in TESOL graduate from UAB, asks, “What Does Mango Languages Offer to Language Learners? Ilka Kostka and Catherine Showalter from Northeastern University explain what is necessary for “Preparing Students For Video Communication in Academic Settings.” And finally we have an article from David Winans, a doctoral student at Arizona State University, offering “Practical Solutions For Building Community In Online Language Classrooms.” Thanks to all our contributors. Finally, I would like to thank our newsletter editing team. Without the help of Suzanne Bardasz, Nathan Toister, Bashar Al-Hariri, and an Anonymous Team member, it wouldn’t have been possible to publish three newsletters in the last year. Suzanne Bardasz is a former Academic Coordinator at University of the Pacific, International. She previously taught at UC Davis for 6 years and at the Korea Advanced Institute for Science and Technology (KAIST) in Daejeon, South Korea for nearly 5 years.
Larry Udry has worked at Divine Word College, a small Catholic seminary in Epworth, Iowa, since 2003. He has published the CAL- IS Newsletter and has served on the CALL IS Steering Committee since 2009. Recently, he published an environmentally-themed ESL e-text with Kendall Hunt. Prior to his position at Divine Word College, he worked in UT Martin for eleven years, where he published the TNTESOL Newsletter. |
