She has served on the Chairs team for three years, been a Steering Committee member since 2016, and has volunteered and presented with CALL-IS for the past decade. During her tenure on the Chairs team, Heather has sought to create connections with other TESOL Interest Sections, improved intra-IS communications and e-records keeping, developed a CALL-focused webinar partnership between TESOL and the U.S. Department of State, and increased outreach to potential CALL-IS members and volunteers.

Heather is an EFL teacher educator and materials development specialist who has led virtual professional development programs for teachers from over 100 countries. She is a long-time producer and presenter for the U.S. Department of State’s American English Live global webinar program and has served as English Language Specialist for projects in the Balkans, Russia, and Brazil. Heather is an English Teaching Forum author and Contributing Editor. She loves to read, hike, and ski!

  1. Marta Halaczkiewicz holds an M.A. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and an M.A. in Educational Technology. She has also recently successfully defended her doctoral dissertation in Instructional Technology and Learning Sciences. Marta has taught English as a Second Language (ESL) at the university level for 14 years and is currently serving as the director of Intensive English Language Institute at Utah State University. She has experience in and enjoys teaching all levels and skills of English. She also enjoys mentoring in-service ESL teachers. Her research interests include using games and gamifying language instruction, writing peer-review in ELS instruction, and collaborative online spaces. Marta has been involved in the CALL-IS as a volunteer and Steering Committee member for 10 years and is now serving her three-year term as the interest section chair. Marta enjoys traveling, trying out local cuisine, cooking, hiking, and skiing.

  1. Jane Chien is an assistant professor in the Department of Children’s English Education at the National Taipei University of Education. During the past 16 years, she has been engaged in pre-service EFL elementary school teacher training and in providing professional development to in-service teachers. As the Director of the Center for Research on Bilingual Education at NTUE, she has dedicated her work to promoting bilingual education through CLIL and supervising several elementary schools’ bilingual programs in the northern part of Taiwan. Her most valuable experience actively participating in the international CALL community has been serving on the TESOL’s CALL-IS Electronic Village Online coordination team since 2018 and joining the steering committee of CALL-IS Member-at-large serving as volunteer coordinator in 2020. She is now serving her three-year term as CALL Interest Section Chair-Elect.
