MESSAGE FROM THE COEDITOR

Matthias Maunsell, University of Alabama at Birmingham, Birmingham, Alabama, USA

Dear SPLIS readers,

I was delighted to receive the call to serve as coeditor of As We Speak this year alongside Suzanne. While typically part of the readership, I am now privileged to have a front row seat to the stirring voices and boundless knowledge in our field. As an instructor and researcher, I enjoy being part of such a vibrant community. Shared experiences, thoughts, opinions, and passions connect us, and yes, give us pause to reflect on the exciting purpose of our work. Let us not forget that helping to develop a learner’s communication system expands not only his/her world but ours too. So, please continue to irrigate the land and stoke the flames of thought and innovation. Forward those great models for speaking and listening instruction, unveil ways for scaling pronunciation challenges, and impart tips and activities that guide effective communication. The choice is yours. Even if your concept is snoozing or squirreled away, share it with us now and perhaps we can coax it outside.

The clarion call for our Spring 2020 SPLIS Newsletter is already sounding. The deadline to submit is December 1, 2019. Submission guidelines are here. No, it’s not too early, so please put this on your agenda. The pronouncement is clear: When you speak, we listen.

Best wishes,

Matthias
