LEADERSHIP UPDATES

LETTER FROM THE CHAIR

James Whiting, Plymouth State University, Plymouth, New Hampshire, USA

TEIS Colleagues,

Welcome to the Winter 2023 issue of the Teacher Education Interest Section (TEIS) Newsletter.

This issue features four terrific articles on topics that can be relevant and important to every teacher educator, including English-language teacher development, using Zoom for self-observation, professional growth in teachers’ association and teacher development in Vietnam. I want to take this opportunity to congratulate the TEIS newsletter editors Khanh-Duc Kuttig, Bridget Schvarcz, and Vu Tran-Thanh, the newest member of the newsletter team.

We’re wrapping up a very active and amazing year at TEIS. By the end of this month, we’ll have hosted two town hall events and eight webinars that have attracted hundreds of TESOL colleagues from around the world. All of these events were recorded and are available on the TESOL Youtube channel – please check them out!

Looking ahead, the entire leadership team hopes to see you at the TESOL convention in Portland next month. If you’re attending, please do plan to attend the TEIS business meeting on Thursday evening and meet your TEIS colleagues and the TEIS leadership team, and join us for drinks and dinner afterwards.

At the convention we hope you can attend the TEIS academic session on Friday morning, Putting TESOL Advocacy into Practice in Teacher Preparation.

Please consider joining the TEIS leadership team and nominating yourself for the Chair Elect-Elect position. Check out the announcement posted to the TESOL lists about this professional service opportunity.

Finally, we encourage you to join us on social media. Please visit the TEIS Facebook page; you can find it at Teacher Education—a TESOL Interest Section. The TEIS Twitter handle is @TESOL_TEIS. These are both wonderful ways to stay connected to TEIS.
