MINUTES OF THE VDMIS OPEN ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING, TESOL 2015

March 26, 2015

This meeting actually took place over 2 days; as some members had to leave for various reasons, we tabled some discussions till the following day.

  1. The meeting was called to order at 6:45 pm by Scott Duarte, the 2014 ESP-IS Chair-Elect. There were six people in attendance: Scott Duarte, Christel Broady, Vicki Hollett, Kenneth Chyi, M. Sidury Christiansen, and Jonathan Geense.
  2. All attending members introduced themselves as a couple of people were new to VDMIS.
  3. Scott Duarte spoke on his vision for the upcoming year and in which direction he would like VDMIS to go.
  4. Scott Duarte then spoke about the IS Leaders’ Workshop and the proposed InterSections that came out of it. He also initiated discussions about the academic sessions. Kenneth Chyi and Christel Broady added to the discussion. In the subsequent meeting, M. Sidury Christiansen proposed another spin to the existing framework of the session.
  5. Kenneth Chyi spoke about the newsletter and how he and Joyce Cunningham will alternate as editors for the two issues that we will put out.
  6. 2015–2016 goals include developing a website that showcases student-generated websites, possible webinars, two to three InterSections involving the English for Specific Purposes IS, EFL IS, and Materials Writers IS.
  7. Scott Duarte stated that he would make announcements for proposal readers for the upcoming year as well as put out the call for participation for the InterSections.
  8. Jonathan Geense (jongeense@gmail.com) volunteered to be the Community Manager.
  9. The meeting was adjourned at 7:43 pm.
