ABOUT THIS COMMUNITY COMMUNITY UPDATE
Summer greetings from China, where I am writing my first update as the new community manager for the Intercultural Communications Interest Section. I want to extend my thanks to the preceding community manager, Austin Pack—my former colleague from Shantou University and dear friend—for his good work organizing our community. Like Austin, I am also a relative newcomer to the ICIS community but am eager to listen to your stories of intercultural communications and to share my own experiences with our growing community. One of the things that I would like to accomplish as community manager is to build on the invaluable resource sharing that Austin has started. Last fall, we worked to compile a list of books, novels, articles and other resources related to intercultural communications, which can be accessed through Tesol.org by going to the Intercultural Communications Interest Section's Community Page under "library." I would love to see us expand this list even further—if you have recommended resources that you would like to add to this document, please email me and I will include them. In addition, I would like to compile a collection of activities, visuals, short videos, student reading material, teaching tips, and any other classroom-teaching related resources. I believe that many of us (like me!) often find ourselves with a strong desire to develop our students’ intercultural competence, but are sometimes at a loss for suitable materials to spark critical thinking, discussion, and reflection. If you have materials you are willing to share, please email me and include a one- to two-sentence description of how you have used this resource. I appreciate your help with these projects and look forward to connecting with you as your community manager. Sarah Adams Sarah Adams has taught ESL, intercultural communications, and teacher training in various locations throughout China and is currently finishing her MA in TESOL from the School for International Training. |
