LEADERSHIP UPDATES

LETTER FROM THE CHAIR

Dear TESOL Bi-Multilingual Education Interest Section community and all readers,

We are so excited to welcome you into the 2021-2022 chapter of our special interest group. Our goal is to continue to focus our efforts on creating opportunities for dialogue and action for multilingual students around the world.

This past year, in particular, has led to so much change. Under the leadership of Ching-Ching Lin, we revised our mission statement and hosted events to support our continued growth. In 2021-2022, we would like to build on this important work to keep on fighting for centering multilingualism in TESOL. We need to ensure that teachers and students are supported to tap into their full linguistic, cultural and racial experiences and resources when learning English in international, local, glocalized and virtual contexts.

So far, we successfully hosted the webinar "World Englishes: Diversity, Contexts and Cultures" led by Dr. Kirti Kapur on April 21, 2021 with a follow-up, all-day Twitter chat on April 22, 2021.

We have planned many more opportunities to continue the dialogue! We need to talk with each other. We need to listen. We need to be challenged. We need to speak up.

Let’s do it! We will never stop learning.

Clara Vaz Bauler,
TESOL B-MEIS Chair
