MESSAGE FROM THE PAST CHAIR

Kevin Martin, Fairfax, Virginia, USA

Dear HEIS Community,

I would like to thank every member of our interest section (IS) who contributed a proposal for TESOL 2019! This was the first year of our transition into the use of strands. While ISs will continue to have IS academic and InterSections, the majority of the proposal review process has begun to transition to the new strand model. The strand model allows the ISs to focus on inbetween conference work while maximizing the expertise of colleagues who work in/research in areas related to the strands.

As with every year, only a portion of proposals could be accepted given time and space constraints, so do not get discouraged if you were not accepted!

2018–2019 also served as our first year transitioning to our Communities of Practice within TESOL. This continues a push toward strengthening our ISs and renewing a vision for our future TESOL conventions and ISs. In all, TESOL is working to continue to improve and to serve its membership.

Please remember that our myTESOL community platform is a resource for all of us to discuss and keep informed about issues affecting our ISs, so I hope that you will watch for and contribute to discussions.

This is an exciting time to be with TESOL and HEIS, and I am looking forward to our collective journey.

Very best,

Kevin Martin
