INSTITUTIONAL CHALLENGES IN CREATING AN ITA HANDBOOK |
Brandon J. King, University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida, USA |
State universities in Florida and elsewhere in the United
States are charged to monitor and credential an ever-growing population
of (international) teaching assistants (ITAs) as they adjust to new,
challenging funding models that favor student employment over expanding
the tenure pool. This presents challenges to both the university and
those being credentialed, especially ITAs, in meeting many hiring and
credentialing hurdles, such as demonstrations of English proficiency.
This article explores the rationale for and creation of an ITA handbook
at a large southern U.S. university to help meet these requirements from
an institutional perspective. Read More |

PERCEPTIONS OF ITAS |
Elise Geither, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, USA |
One of the gaps in research on international teaching
assistants (ITAs) is research that focuses on the perceptions of the
ITAs themselves. A simple search reveals more on what research exists
and how ITAs perceive their experiences at U.S. universities. Read More |

BLOOM'S AFFECTIVE DOMAIN & ESOL EDUCATORS IN HIGHER ED AND ADULT ED |
Alex Monceaux, TIEP at Lamar, Lamar University, Beaumont, Texas, USA & Jahnette Wilson, University of Houston, Houston, Texas, USA |
Contemporary sciences indicate the importance of a learner’s
affective domain over the cognitive domain as a better indicator of
success than intellectual ability. This study explored characteristics
of ESOL higher education and adult education educators training,
knowledge, perception, and use of Bloom’s affective domain. This is an
abbreviation of a longer article submitted for publication. Read More |
